Good ole Gorbi

During speeches in Berlin, Mikhail Gorbachev was quoted as saying the following, “Euphoria and triumphalism went to the heads of Western leaders… Taking advantage of Russia’s weakening and the lack of a counterweight, they claimed monopoly leadership and domination of the world, refusing to heed words of caution from many of those present here.” He has always been a great counterweight to GHWBush’s post-Cold War wonderland. Reagan was always anticommunists but not always a war hawk. WW2 had a different pull on him.

Alternatively, it developed a rich WW2 Navy pilot into a CIA director and proponent of the New World Order. I’ve often thought about what he and his buddies from the CIA would have done if the GOP had picked him in ’80. The world would be different place.

Oh wait a minute I forgot about Rumsfeld and Chaney pulling the strings a decade ago.

Update If you don’t know GWB has written a memoir of his relationship with his dad, GHWB. It’s quotes like the following that make me eat my hat. “Despite his deep disappointment, my father refused to condemn Nixon publicly. While he might have benefited in the short run, Dad saw little point in “piling on,” as he put it. He voiced his opinion privately in a letter to the President on August 7. As far as I know, he is the only party Chairman in American history who has ever written such a letter.” Quoted from theDrudge Report
