Hebrews 11:13 ESV
These all died in faith, (Able, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Moses) not having received the things promised, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth.
Hebrews 12:1-3 ESV
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.
My family was visiting Good Shepherd Baptist in Scott Depot, WV today and the message was based mostly on these key verses. We, who are believers, are a part of the fabric that makes up this world, but we are not citizens of this world. We are those who will endure the slings and arrows of life and the temptations of selfish exultation; only to find them to be wanting. To be less than that of our heavenly father. Good is who we should look to and strive to be with; always out ahead and leading the way.
