Top 10 Dads in Science Fiction and Fantasy (GeekDad Wayback Machine) | GeekDad | Wired.com.

This is one of my favorite blogs. They compiled a similar list back on Mother’s Day they posted a similar article about Moms. I have to admit its great to be apart of the first generation of Geek Dads with the¬†ability¬†to communicate via the web. Thus, finding great examples in the annuals of fiction, SciFi, and Fantasy. Never thought that Field of Dreams would fall into the category but I guess that comes from the idea that it is a sports movie instead of fantasy. It has been one of my top 10 favorites of all time, of course taking a close look, the list itself would be a good starting point for any top 10.

I hope all my friends have a wonderful Father’s day and best wishes to all.

I was watching West Wing today and  remembered that this quote. It is one of my favorite from Shakespeare, but is vastly underused. How hollow is an office when the political faithful issue the commandments of leadership, instead of those endowed with the responsibility to lead.

King Richard II: For God’s sake, let us sit upon the ground
And tell sad stories of the death of kings;
How some have been deposed; some slain in war,
Some haunted by the ghosts they have deposed;
Some poison’d by their wives: some sleeping kill’d;
All murder’d: for within the hollow crown
That rounds the mortal temples of a king
Keeps Death his court and there the antic sits,
Scoffing his state and grinning at his pomp,
Allowing him a breath, a little scene,
To monarchize, be fear’d and kill with looks,
Infusing him with self and vain conceit,
As if this flesh which walls about our life,
Were brass impregnable, and humour’d thus
Comes at the last and with a little pin
Bores through his castle wall, and farewell king!
